Here's what I did....
I washed my hair out as always. I shampoo'd and conditioned using Shea Moisture products (I know a lot of people co-wash a lot), but since I was trying a new technique I figured I would start from scratch so I could rule out possible factors if my hair ended up being an epic fail.
So I finger parted my hair and started rolling from the tips, making sure to "candy cane" my hair around the rod. Every now and then I had trouble with rolling it all the way up only for it to unroll itself because I didn't flex the rods right. Once I got the hang of it, I was just kind of slapping them in there and rolling with it! Took about an hour (I was watching Criminal Minds) but I was only roddin' on commercial breaks. So really, probably a total of 20mins if I went straight through. Went to sleep and took them out in the morning.
PROS: At first, I was like "omg, why do I have these grandma curls." But they were extremely soft to the touch so I could manipulate them easily. Also, they were sssuuuuuppppppeeeerrrr curly. Like they looked like they made the "BOING" sound if you pulled them lol. Curls lasted all day. They were so tight though I'm sure they could last through a wind storm. And they also had lots of body and movement.
CONS: I didn't know how to go to sleep the next night. I figured since the curls were so tight I didn't want to re-rod them and they never loosen up, so I went to sleep with a satin cap on. Big NO NO! Woke up to mushed and matted hair. I tried doing the whole take a hot shower and let the steam hit it trick but that didn't work either. Just made them frizzier. Also, even though I like the outcome of the curls, my roots were super fuzzy and thick. You know once you roll the rods to your head, it's still that part that doesn't get wrapped cause... I mean... it's your scalp blocking the last roll. That little part of exposed hair did not dry like the rest and it kind of annoying having bouncing curls hanging from a brillo bush.
Overall.... I like them. Borderline say I love them but I just need more practice. Shala (PND who thinks she's a guest blogger lol) suggested that I braid my roots slightly then rod the rest of the hair so that my roots won't puff up and still have some type of pattern when I take the rods out. Definitely going to try this suggestion. I tried two strand twisting my roots, then roddin'... nope. Won't do that again. The twist just untwisted. THEN I tried twisting the whole section of hair then roddin' it... NEVER! Didn't dry, the tips looks thin, and it was hard to manipulate.
I'll be trying the flexi's again, maybe this time braiding my roots and using a larger rod so my curl won't be so tight.
Let us know if you've had any success with flexi rods!

Rods definitely weren't in any particular order.

Ok so I was clearly feeling the curls lol. Sorry!

I used all green. The purple ones have a different texture and they kept slipping out of my hair.

I love, lovee, loveee that hairstyle! I can't wait to take my braids down to do ittttt. OMG : )
It looks great on you !! Flexi rods have definitely saved my transition lol. I usually part my hair in four sections, then part individual sections beyond that - maybe like 6 or 7 for each rod. I use ones like your purple ones but smaller [ red, blue, orange ]. I use my denman to smooth each section and I put leave in, oil, [ on the whole section ] and wrap mousse on each individual section before I put them on the rod. I also use end papers [ you can buy like 500 for $3 & they last forever! ] Then I sit under the dryer for like an hour and either sleep on the rods or take them out if its for that day and separate the curls with a little light oil on my fingers.
Moptop Maven has a good video on how she does hers!!
Hope that helped! :)
This style is poppin and so are thos e curls! I really like how the style turned out, I'm getting tired of my same 2 staple hairstyles (coils and coil outs!) and this seems like something simple to try with amazing results. Thank you for the post!
What did you do with your hair at night ? What works ?
Thanks
