About PND

Pretty Natural Divas derives from the desire to see more resources and products featuring ideals that promote love of African-American beauty, in particular African-American hair free of chemicals i.e. relaxers. We seek to enrich the minds of African-Americans but also others whom we encounter, through education, empowerment, and self-love.

The idea for Pretty Natural Divas came about during a random facebook chat conversation. GASP! It was 3 o' clock in the morning and being the nerds that we are, we said, "There's not really any products out there that encourage the idea of Natural hair or "Black" as beautiful. Let's make something." 4 months later, HERE WE ARE!

Initially, we wanted to just make a few t-shirts and maybe some polos, but PND has expanded to an online store, written blog, video blog, and facebook fan page (the online store has since closed.). Our products/websites are not merely for Natural haired Black women. We seek to encourage ALL to see beauty in its facets and see the beauty in everyone! Pretty Natural Divas was founded by Sierra and Jameka, and is now primarily maintained by Jameka.
Sierra is co-founder of Pretty Natural Divas. She recently obtained her Masters degree in College and Community Counseling. She also has a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education and Health Promotion.

Sierra went Natural via a big chop in April of 2006. Cutting her hair was a way of starting over after a stressful semester that include academic stress, emotional stress and the loss of a love one. Going Natural was a way for her to learn to really love herself and just taking control of her own life.
*** Sierra is no longer a PND blogger.

Jameka is co-founder of Pretty Natural Divas. She recently obtained a Bachelors of Science degree in Education. She is currently a 3rd grade teacher in the state of Virginia.
She went Natural in the Fall of 2009 after failed successes with relaxers and noticing her hair was thinning. She wanted to learn to love herself without having to rely on the use of weaves and extensions. Going Natural was her way of reclaiming who she was and she uses her experiences to aid others in the journey of going Natural.
